Instruction & Formation | Independent Monitoring and Self-Discipline

B

ecause accepting the guidance of a mentor can be intrusive and intimate—and sometimes means waiting to be assigned a monitor because of the significant investment of time required—some of our community members elect to embrace self-selected disciplines, such as those suggested to non-participants, and to use the community’s  online tools as a way of applying a basic level of accountability and transparency as understood within the context of the project.

The Internal Discipline Forums

The purpose of the Internal Discipline forums is to provide for a way for community members to experiment with the principles of accountability and transparency as they are practised by monitored members and by project participants. Independent monitoring and self-discipline are not seen as substitutes for other approaches to formation which require closer guidance and obedience to disciplines that are not self-selected. It is quite possible for project participants and monitored members to supplement their instruction by use of these forums.

How to Use the Internal Disciplines Forums

The forums are divided into two distinct community areas—Internal Discipline Support and Discussion and Internal Discipline Declarations.

Internal Discipline Support and Discussion Forum: A private forum designed to encourage reflection and information regarding self-discipline and the place for independence within obedience. Discussions focus on the need for mindfulness, the embrace of accountability and the boundaries between Self and Other in a submissive context.

Internal Discipline Declarations Forum: An adjunct forum, also private, in which the principles of accountability and transparency may be practised. Members who have chosen self-discipline as an approach to formation may post goals (and related comments, such as success in meeting declared goals) in this forum for community review and comment.

Example: In the morning a member may post her objectives for the day. At mid-day she may offer a comment on her progress reaching her goals. At day’s end, another on how well she thinks she did. Other members may comment and offer advice, support or encouragement.

Frequency of posting is at the option of the member making these public declarations: For closer guidance, post more frequently. Members may also contribute suggestions for increasing motivation and efficiency to the resource threads in this forum and to share information and observations in order to provide education, resources, and social support for improving internal discipline.

Transparency and Obedience Area: An advanced-level, highly secure and private community programme designed for those who wish more intensive formation in understanding how transparency and obedience can deepen the experience of disciplined surrender. This is not a facility that will be useful to most community members. Admission is carefully monitored. Membership is discreet. For details contact the site admin or area moderators.
