onfiguration of the yahoo-provided calendar can be
confusing. It’s important that the calendar be private, viewable only by you, your
monitor, or, for those who elect community monitoring, members of that community area. (Instructions on how full participants are to
use the calendar for the purposes of this Project appear on the pages dedicated
to accountability.) This page will show you how to insure the proper set-up of
your calendar and how to make it available for monitoring, if this has been
permitted. Please print and follow these instructions carefully.
To create a calendar you must
first establish a free yahoo email account. To do this, go to http://www.yahoo.com/.
Click on the “Mail” icon at the top
right of the heading, Yahoo!
Under "New to Yahoo?" Click
on the blue line below the text that reads “get a free Yahoo mail account.”
Choose the option farthest to the left, the one that
says, “Free Yahoo! Mail.” Click on “Sign up Now.”
Fill in the form. Note: Use an
identity that will be discreet, not personally identifying and untraceable from
the internet. Make sure you do not click on the box to list your
address in the Yahoo people search.
Once the account is set up, click on
“Continue to Yahoo Mail.”
Go to “Mail Options” at the top
right corner to set your general preferences.
Return to your mailbox and click on
the "Calendar" tab.
This will bring you to today’s page. Click
“Calendar Options” on the top right-hand corner.
Personalize your calendar from the
first column of choices under “Personalization.”
Most important: Under
“Management,” go to “Sharing.” Fill in the sharing options as follows:
§ Friends can
view my calendar
§ Set “Event
Sharing” as “Public.”
§ Edit “My
Friends” list and add your monitor’s yahoo name (consult with your monitor for this information) or, for those in Community Monitoring, the name provided in that discussion area, and adjust the
settings so that your calendar can be viewed and modified for any who monitor your daily activities. Please do not make your calendar accessible to anyone not associated with the Project.
§ Copy the URL
of the calendar (it will be something like “http://calendar.yahoo.com/your_yahoo_name”)
so you’ll have a record of it and click SAVE.
§ Send the URL
to your monitor or, if you are being monitored by your sisters in the community, make a post in the calendar monitoring thread (members only).
